Taraba state: New Speaker Elected To Replace Tsokwa

Posted by Unknown Selasa, 12 November 2013 0 komentar

After the unexpected death of Haruna Tsokwa on Nobermber 4, Taraba state House of Assembly has elected a new Speaker.  The Assembly this morning elected Josiah Kente as new Speaker. He will replace Haruna Tsokwa, who died after a brief illness on November 4. Details of Mr. Kente’s election are, however, quite vague.

According to the initial reports, Mr. Kente, a former deputy majority leader of the Assembly, emerged by consensus after members agreed to retain the speakership position in the Southern Senatorial Zone of the state.

Late Speaker Tsoka hailed from that part of the state. Deputy Speaker Tanko Maikerifi was reportedly disqualified to allow for religious balancing in the leadership of the state.  Acting Governor Garba Umar is muslim and the lawmakers decided that another muslim should not be heading the second most powerful arm of government in the state.

Mr. Tsokwa died of a yet undisclosed on November 4 at the Federal Medical Centre, Jalingo, the Taraba state capital. The late speaker fully supported the Acting Governor Garba in the ongoing battle for the control of the state.

Mr. Tsokwa managed to escape death on September 19 when his convoy was attacked by the gunmen along the Jos – Abuja road.

He was not hurt, but some policemen in his convoy were seriously injured as a result of an exchange of fire between them and their attackers.

EXPOSED: Enugu State's First Lady Clara is Being Manipulated By Gov Chime

Posted by Unknown 0 komentar

The goings on in Enugu State where the First Lady, Clara Chime has been on lock down for months now is one that is very troubling. Reports have it that the woman is mentally unstable but it appears that is not all to the issue as she and her family members have not been allowed to seek help for her.

Human rights activist, Femi Falana, has dismissed the claims by Governor Sullivan Chime of Enugu State that he did not receive a brief from his wife to represent her and help rescue her from the illegal detention imposed on her by her husband, the governor.

“When Governor Chime was recently medically challenged he was not subjected to solitary confinement in the Government House but flown abroad for adequate medical treatment.”
“I wish to say, without any fear of contradiction, that I have her instructions in writing to challenge her illegal detention at the Government House, Enugu.
“Through the assistance of some of the security personnel in the Government House she has since spoken to me on phone to confirm her instructions...
"Indeed, Mrs Chime's mother and her personal physician have also been in touch with me urging me to take all appropriate measures to secure her freedom from Governor Chime's illegal confinement.”
Falana revealed in a statement on Wednesday. He also pointed out that contrary to the governor’s diversionary statement, he does not need the instructions of citizens to demand for their release.

“Without any instructions I am duty bound to file cases in court to secure the enforcement of the fundamental rights of detainees to personal liberty. For the avoidance of doubt, the doctrine of locus standi in the area of human rights has been abolished by the Fundamental Rights (Enforcement Procedure) Rules 2009 which came into force on December 1, 2009,” he said.

Mr. Falana noted that at the press conference Governor Chime succeeded in confirming the allegation that he has held his wife in illegal custody but attempted to justify the illegality by saying his wife has "a medical challenge".

Falana said: “Mr Chime has conspired with his private physicians to sentence his wife to unwarranted mental torture and psychological trauma in a room in the Government House for the past four months. If Chime's claim is correct that the wife is non compos mentis, when was the Enugu Government House converted to a psychiatric hospital?

“Having confirmed the allegation that he has willfully infringed the fundamental rights of his wife to personal liberty, dignity of the person and freedom of movement, Governor Chime should release his wife from illegal custody [and] be warned not to divert attention from the brutal abuse of the rights of his wife.
"If he and his doctors are convinced that she is medically challenged they should send her to a hospital for quick recovery!”
Falana thanked the Director-General of the SSS who, he said, has directed security personnel attached to the Government House to desist from teaming up with the Governor to hold his wife hostage.

Chime made this denial in the current presence of some journalists, his wife and her elder brother, Mr. Tony Igwe.

Also present were the governor's siblings, Mrs. May Oji and Dr. Jide Chime, along with Mrs. Chime's neuro-psychiatric doctor, Dr. Aham Agumuo, among a couple of others. At the interview session, the governor's wife denied sending any petition to the National Human Rights Commission alleging unlawful detention by her husband.

She also denied hiring the services of Mr. Femi Falana to get her freedom from an alleged house arrest at the Governor's Lodge, Enugu. Continue after the break.
Falana had claimed in his letter to media houses and the Inspector-General of Police that he was engaged by the governor's wife to get her freedom from alleged house arrest.

The state governor, however, stated so it was “so disturbing” for him to speak out publicly about his wife's health challenges.

He vowed to accomplish all within his power, regardless of the private pains, to protect her from ridicule.

“Well, my wife has some medical challenges and it could be very unkind for me to share her condition on the pages of newspapers.
“I have inked everything to protect her integrity and I'm not now likely to expose her to ridicule because some individuals desire to exploit her situation to drag me into a needless war of words,” Chime said.

Bayelsa State Government on Wednesday demolished a one-storey private building owned by Governor Seriake dickson because it obstructed the Right-of-Way as well as intruding on the state Capital City Master Plan.

Deputy Governor John Jonah told journalists that the location of the Governor’s house obstructed the Right-of-Way, hence there would be no compensation for him.
He said:
Continue

In line with the development control of the CCDA and urban renewal of the state, the government awarded contract for the dualisation of the road. Anyone who has built structures on the Right-of-Way should expect such buildings to be demolished.

One of the houses we have found to have interfered with the plan of Yenagoa is this one-storey structure belonging to the Governor.

On the advice of the CCDA that is concerned with development control of the state, the house was marked since last year for demolition. And you know we have awarded contract for the dualisation of the Opolo Road.”

However, some Yenagoa residents on Wednesday, according to Punch, claimed that only a section of dickson’s building was demolished, and that the exercise was a strategy to enable the government to demolish buildings of perceived opponents without causing public outrage.

Clara Chime, First Lady of Enugu State, Begs Human Rights Groups To Release Her

Posted by Unknown 0 komentar
First Lady of Enugu State, Clara Chime says her husband, Govr Sullivan Chime, has placed her under house arrest, and has cried out for assistance to reach human rights bodies to rescue her.

According to SaharaReporters, in a letter dripping with pain and suffering, Mrs. Chime disclosed that she married Mr. Chime in October 2008 but that she has been unable to share the matrimonial bed with him for over four years.
Continue after the break.

Describing her desperate situation, she said that even President Goodluck Jonathan and First Lady Patience Jonathan have intervened with her husband without success.

My father is late, my mum and few of my siblings are confused and have done all kinds of prayers they know of, 3 of my siblings prefer me dead than to see me leave the Government house.  He treats my mum and my siblings bad,” she wrote.

The Enugu State First Lady said she has been introduced to two psychiatrists whose names she gave as Dr. Onwukwe and Dr. Agumo, who have prescribed “all kinds of drugs that ends up keeping me acute depressed and also drives me into hallucinations.”
The doctors, she noted, are scared of her husband the Governor, to whom nobody can tell the truth.

According to the letter, the Catholic Bishop of Enugu state (Callistus Onaga), and top priests have come to intervene, as have the President and the First Lady of the nation, without success.

Mrs. Chime further complains that Governor Chime has ordered her to leave with her four-year old son whom she conceived before their wedding.  However, the governor, according to her, later threatened to disown the boy should she leave with him.

He has told everyone he can reach that there is no marriage between us that I can leave if I wish to but whenever I plan to leave he instructs them to lock me in.  I have told him through sms that I will leave my son behind and leave alone but still he instructed
his securities to lock me inside the house.”

Mrs. Chime further complains she has lost touch with the real world and all that makes her beautiful because of the side effects of the drugs she is taking, stressing that she is under house arrest for committing no crime.

Of the situation in Government House, she said:
“He does not take care of me personally, the government gives me allowance to run the house and that's where I save little from to take care of my elf, my Mum and few of my siblings,” she said in the letter.  He shut me out of his life years ago; I don't have access to his apartment. The problem is enormous; I don't know where to start to explain from.”

She said that even the security detail in the lodge has resorted to praying for her, while the few that can be bought with money are taking advantage of the situation.
Police and SS men have been instructed by Br Sullivan Chime to confine me in a place for a long time now against my wish [but] it is my wish to leave these premises,” she said, begging, Please assist me to reach to the human rights and say to them to please come hastily and release me.”
