After treating myself, I will never go back there again. I will not even wish my enemy to marry in that kind of place again.”-Chime –Wife

Mrs. CLARA Chime on Monday left the Government House in Enugu claiming she had been under pressure to remain as wife of  the Enugu State Governor, Sullivan Chime. She said she would have walked away from the marriage during the period Chime was sick and was away for five months, but remained on “very compassionate grounds.”

Mrs. Chime said her thinking was that the sickness would change the governor’s ways towards her but that he got worse months after his return from cancer treatment abroad. According to her, on many occasions she attempted to leave but her family members, for pecuniary reasons, insisted she stayed put. She said even when it was apparent that Chime no longer wanted the marriage, her family would not let her go.
She disclosed this through the mobile phone of one of her male siblings, about four hours after she eventually packed out from the Governors’ Lodge on Monday. The sibling declined revealing his identity to The source, but stated that he was one of the few family members who supported Mrs. Chime’s agitation to quit the marriage. He said if he revealed his identity, it could cause a stir between him and other family members with whom members of the Chime family were still holding meetings on the matter.
He claimed that Chime had long lost interest in the marriage but held forth because he (Chime) didn’t want his image stained.

“So there was no need joining other family members into forcing her to remain in a marriage that he (the governor) was no longer interested in,” said the source.
He said,
“Governor Sullivan Chime just wanted to keep her within the lodge for fear that she could open up on certain things she knew about him if she was allowed to leave unceremoniously.”

When the source eventually brought Mrs. Chime on the phone to speak with our correspondent, she said, “I regained my freedom to move around on Saturday and I eventually forced my way out of that place (Government House) today (Monday).”
She said, “I am not the one who is sick, but I became sick because of the way I was treated. There are some things people would do to you that make you sick or even die.”
“After treating myself, I will never go back there again. I will not even wish my enemy to marry in that kind of place again.”
When contacted, the state Commissioner for Information, Mr. Chuks Ugwuoke, said he just returned from Lagos and was not aware.
“I have been away in Lagos and cannot speak on anything I don’t know of, especially when it is a family matter. I will call you as soon as I am briefed,” Ugwuoke said.
Meanwhile, a Lagos-based lawyer, Mr. Fred Agbaje, has called on the National Human Rights Commission to probe further into the issue between Chime and his wife.Agbaje said in a statement on Monday that as personalities who lived on public fund,
the citizenry deserved to know the truth about the situation and Clara’s true state of health.
He said both the governor and his wife might not have told the whole truth about the issue.
He said,
“There must be an end to sinking lies. The Chimes of this world need another fatter lies to cover their present lies. The truth is that one Mrs Clara Chime is ill. To cover her public odium, she was cleverly and unconstitutionally detained by Chime.
“As for the NHRC, they need to do more research into the Chimes’ affairs and expose every unconstitutionalities, not the present contradictory conflicting charade comming out of the commission.”

EXPOSED: Enugu State's First Lady Clara is Being Manipulated By Gov Chime

Posted by Unknown Kamis, 07 November 2013 0 komentar

The goings on in Enugu State where the First Lady, Clara Chime has been on lock down for months now is one that is very troubling. Reports have it that the woman is mentally unstable but it appears that is not all to the issue as she and her family members have not been allowed to seek help for her.

Human rights activist, Femi Falana, has dismissed the claims by Governor Sullivan Chime of Enugu State that he did not receive a brief from his wife to represent her and help rescue her from the illegal detention imposed on her by her husband, the governor.

“When Governor Chime was recently medically challenged he was not subjected to solitary confinement in the Government House but flown abroad for adequate medical treatment.”
“I wish to say, without any fear of contradiction, that I have her instructions in writing to challenge her illegal detention at the Government House, Enugu.
“Through the assistance of some of the security personnel in the Government House she has since spoken to me on phone to confirm her instructions...
"Indeed, Mrs Chime's mother and her personal physician have also been in touch with me urging me to take all appropriate measures to secure her freedom from Governor Chime's illegal confinement.”
Falana revealed in a statement on Wednesday. He also pointed out that contrary to the governor’s diversionary statement, he does not need the instructions of citizens to demand for their release.

“Without any instructions I am duty bound to file cases in court to secure the enforcement of the fundamental rights of detainees to personal liberty. For the avoidance of doubt, the doctrine of locus standi in the area of human rights has been abolished by the Fundamental Rights (Enforcement Procedure) Rules 2009 which came into force on December 1, 2009,” he said.

Mr. Falana noted that at the press conference Governor Chime succeeded in confirming the allegation that he has held his wife in illegal custody but attempted to justify the illegality by saying his wife has "a medical challenge".

Falana said: “Mr Chime has conspired with his private physicians to sentence his wife to unwarranted mental torture and psychological trauma in a room in the Government House for the past four months. If Chime's claim is correct that the wife is non compos mentis, when was the Enugu Government House converted to a psychiatric hospital?

“Having confirmed the allegation that he has willfully infringed the fundamental rights of his wife to personal liberty, dignity of the person and freedom of movement, Governor Chime should release his wife from illegal custody [and] be warned not to divert attention from the brutal abuse of the rights of his wife.
"If he and his doctors are convinced that she is medically challenged they should send her to a hospital for quick recovery!”
Falana thanked the Director-General of the SSS who, he said, has directed security personnel attached to the Government House to desist from teaming up with the Governor to hold his wife hostage.

Enugu state First Lady denies being Imprisoned by Gov Chime

Posted by Unknown Rabu, 06 November 2013 0 komentar

Governor Sullivan Chime of Enugu State on Tuesday night denied subjecting his wife, Mrs. Clara Chime, to accommodate arrest and has vowed to protect her from being exposed to ridicule. Chime made this denial in the current presence of some journalists, his wife and her elder brother, Mr. Tony Igwe.

Also present were the governor's siblings, Mrs. May Oji and Dr. Jide Chime, along with Mrs. Chime's neuro-psychiatric doctor, Dr. Aham Agumuo, among a couple of others. At the interview session, the governor's wife denied sending any petition to the National Human Rights Commission alleging unlawful detention by her husband.

She also denied hiring the services of Mr. Femi Falana to get her freedom from an alleged house arrest at the Governor's Lodge, Enugu. Continue after the break.
Falana had claimed in his letter to media houses and the Inspector-General of Police that he was engaged by the governor's wife to get her freedom from alleged house arrest.

The state governor, however, stated so it was “so disturbing” for him to speak out publicly about his wife's health challenges.

He vowed to accomplish all within his power, regardless of the private pains, to protect her from ridicule.

“Well, my wife has some medical challenges and it could be very unkind for me to share her condition on the pages of newspapers.
“I have inked everything to protect her integrity and I'm not now likely to expose her to ridicule because some individuals desire to exploit her situation to drag me into a needless war of words,” Chime said.

Clara Chime, First Lady of Enugu State, Begs Human Rights Groups To Release Her

Posted by Unknown Senin, 28 Oktober 2013 0 komentar
First Lady of Enugu State, Clara Chime says her husband, Govr Sullivan Chime, has placed her under house arrest, and has cried out for assistance to reach human rights bodies to rescue her.

According to SaharaReporters, in a letter dripping with pain and suffering, Mrs. Chime disclosed that she married Mr. Chime in October 2008 but that she has been unable to share the matrimonial bed with him for over four years.
Continue after the break.

Describing her desperate situation, she said that even President Goodluck Jonathan and First Lady Patience Jonathan have intervened with her husband without success.

My father is late, my mum and few of my siblings are confused and have done all kinds of prayers they know of, 3 of my siblings prefer me dead than to see me leave the Government house.  He treats my mum and my siblings bad,” she wrote.

The Enugu State First Lady said she has been introduced to two psychiatrists whose names she gave as Dr. Onwukwe and Dr. Agumo, who have prescribed “all kinds of drugs that ends up keeping me acute depressed and also drives me into hallucinations.”
The doctors, she noted, are scared of her husband the Governor, to whom nobody can tell the truth.

According to the letter, the Catholic Bishop of Enugu state (Callistus Onaga), and top priests have come to intervene, as have the President and the First Lady of the nation, without success.

Mrs. Chime further complains that Governor Chime has ordered her to leave with her four-year old son whom she conceived before their wedding.  However, the governor, according to her, later threatened to disown the boy should she leave with him.

He has told everyone he can reach that there is no marriage between us that I can leave if I wish to but whenever I plan to leave he instructs them to lock me in.  I have told him through sms that I will leave my son behind and leave alone but still he instructed
his securities to lock me inside the house.”

Mrs. Chime further complains she has lost touch with the real world and all that makes her beautiful because of the side effects of the drugs she is taking, stressing that she is under house arrest for committing no crime.

Of the situation in Government House, she said:
“He does not take care of me personally, the government gives me allowance to run the house and that's where I save little from to take care of my elf, my Mum and few of my siblings,” she said in the letter.  He shut me out of his life years ago; I don't have access to his apartment. The problem is enormous; I don't know where to start to explain from.”

She said that even the security detail in the lodge has resorted to praying for her, while the few that can be bought with money are taking advantage of the situation.
Police and SS men have been instructed by Br Sullivan Chime to confine me in a place for a long time now against my wish [but] it is my wish to leave these premises,” she said, begging, Please assist me to reach to the human rights and say to them to please come hastily and release me.”
