Turmoil on Ajah Path In Lagos As Truck Kills Five School Young ones

There's critical pandemonium on Ajah Path in Lagos as you read this. Region boys and passers-by are clashing with policemen after a trailer smashed five students as they were crossing the road. The sad incident happened close to Ikota Primary school and the lifeless pupils are thought to be making their way to the institution when they were killed. The tanker driver forgotten his vehicle and escaped. The people protesting are insisting they won't keep the region till Governor Fashola shows up . They're blaming the nasty crash on the possible lack of a pedestrian bridge in the area. The 2 show lanes have now been plugged by the furious protesters which has triggered major traffic in the area. There's major police existence in the area.

10 People lost their lives , Nursing Mom Survives As commuter Bus Plunges Into River In Bayelsa

A road mishap in Bayelsa State has led to the deaths of no less than 10 persons after a commuter bus plunged into a river around the Kolokuma-Opokuma Local Government Area of the state.

According to reports, the bus plunged into the Okoso river along the Kaiama-Sampou stretch of the East-West road at around 8.30pm on Saturday.

The accident resulted after the bus, which was reportedly over-speeding, tried to overtake another vehicle and instead somersaulted and ended up in the river.

According to Vanguard Newspaper reports though there were conflicting reports about the causality figure, while some claimed 10 persons lost their lives in the accident, others said seven corpses were recovered by local divers and sympathizers.

It was gathered that most of the occupants of the ill-fated passenger bus were women and children.

A commercial bus driver, Mr. Emmanuel Eziya, told Vanguard that the ill-fated 18-seater bus was conveying passengers to Yenagoa from a traditional marriage ceremony at Oginigbo in Ughelli South Local Government of Delta State.

He said the bus which was on high speed somersaulted and plunged into the river while attempting to overtake another vehicle on the narrow road.

He said: “Though the river is not too deep, only those who knew how to swim were involved in the rescue operation.”

According to him, the bus driver, popularly known as Student, who operated from the Opolo Motor Park in Yenagoa, was among those that died in the crash.

Miraculously, a nursing mother was said to have survived as she swam out of the river. She however lost her child in the crash.

Eight persons who sustained injuries, it was learnt, are currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital in the state.

TERRIBLE: Trailer Accident at Maryland, Lagos State (PHOTOS/VIDEO)

 There clearly was traffic Jam and fear on Saturday 26th October in Maryland Ikeja, Lagos state after a lorry carrying a trailer had an accident nearby the Maryland roundabout. According to the LASTMA officials the lorry heading towards Maryland bus stop from Ikeja lost its brakes and crashed over the median and into oncoming traffic colliding with a volvo car and a jeep.  Efforts to move the automobile seemed impossible throughout the day, thus causing serious traffic on Ikorodu Road and also Bank Anthony way.

Policeman, NSCDC officer crushed while rescuing accident victims

A policeman and an official of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps lost their lives while attempting to rescue victims of a road accident in the Ikeja area of Lagos State on Saturday. According to police authorities, policemen attached to the State Traffic Division were alerted of a multiple accidents around Ikeja Along Bus Stop on the Agege Motor Road and had rushed to the scene around 7am.

On getting to the scene, the police team noticed the corpses of two pedestrians at the centre of the expressway.  A few metres away, there was also an accident involving a truck and two commercial buses.
Our correspondent learnt that the police team, in company with a civil defence officer, were able to rescue all the passengers in the commercial buses after which they were taken to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital.

It was learnt that a few minutes after rescuing the victims, the policemen and the NSCDC officer were hit by a reckless driver in a Sports Utility Vehicle while they were attempting to recover the corpses of the pedestrians.

Police Public Relations Officer, Ngozi Braide, said the incident occurred a few minutes before the compulsory monthly sanitation exercise. She said, “Around 7am, state traffic policemen were alerted of multiple accidents around IkejaAlong Bus Stop. On getting there, the policemen observed the crushed corpses of two pedestrians at the centre of the expressway.

“A few metres away, there was another accident involving two commercial buses and a truck. The policemen were able to rescue the victims in the buses and conveyed them unto an ambulance. The policemen stood nearby by the BRT Bus Stop to get a vehicle into which they could put the corpses.
“However, some minutes later, a white jeep parked at the centre of the road for unknown reasons. Another vehicle, which was coming behind with high speed, did not notice the vehicle on time and attempted to avoid hitting the white jeep.

“However, the driver swerved to where the policemen were and knocked them down. One policeman died on the spot as well as the civil defence man. Another policeman was also injured but survived. Meanwhile, the driver has been arrested and investigations are ongoing.”
Braide warned motorists to be safety conscious especially during the ember months and also obey the movement restriction on environmental sanitation days.
