School Student commits suicide after being strip-searched before others

Four female teachers at a city college, who were accused of strip-searching a student and thereby driving her to commit suicide, have to face trial, as a special court on Friday refused to discharge them from the case.
On January 29, 2011, a student of MGR Janaki College complained to her teachers that Rs 4,000 she had kept with her had gone missing.

Teachers checked every student, but Divya, a third year BCom student, was apparently the only one strip-searched in front of others, said the CB-CID probing the case.
Shamed, Divya committed suicide on returning home.

A case of abatement to commit suicide, punishable under Section 306 of IPC, was registered against four lecturers – Jayalakshmi, Sudha, Selvi and Vijayalakshmi – for allegedly strip-searching the student.
On a complaint from the girl’s mother, police registered the case, and it was later transferred to the CB-CID.

After the agency filed its chargesheet before the mahila court here, the lecturers filed petitions seeking discharge from the case, saying the investigating agency had deliberately suppressed letters written by other students stating that no such strip-search incident occurred on the campus.

CB-CID, however, said their case was supported by witness depositions, documentary evidence and medical records.
Special judge Meena Sathish, concluding there was prima facie case to proceed against the lecturers, said they could raise such arguments at the time of trial.
She then dismissed their petitions, paving the way for commencement of trial in the case.

Codie Thacker, a Whitley County High School junior cross-country runner in Kentucky, says she'd been training for months for the race that may have qualified her for their state championship – nonetheless it wasn't to be. When her coach Gina Croley pulled the race numbers from the meet packet, Croley said she knew immediately there would be a problem.

Thacker's race numbers were "6-6-6."
Croley's suspicions were correct. Thacker immediately objected to the numbers. She told LEX 18 News, "It's the mark of the Beast. That's what the Bible says."
"I didn't want to risk my relationship with God to try to take that number."

Describe this High school Runner in one word!!!

EXPOSED: Enugu State's First Lady Clara is Being Manipulated By Gov Chime

Posted by Unknown 0 komentar

The goings on in Enugu State where the First Lady, Clara Chime has been on lock down for months now is one that is very troubling. Reports have it that the woman is mentally unstable but it appears that is not all to the issue as she and her family members have not been allowed to seek help for her.

Human rights activist, Femi Falana, has dismissed the claims by Governor Sullivan Chime of Enugu State that he did not receive a brief from his wife to represent her and help rescue her from the illegal detention imposed on her by her husband, the governor.

“When Governor Chime was recently medically challenged he was not subjected to solitary confinement in the Government House but flown abroad for adequate medical treatment.”
“I wish to say, without any fear of contradiction, that I have her instructions in writing to challenge her illegal detention at the Government House, Enugu.
“Through the assistance of some of the security personnel in the Government House she has since spoken to me on phone to confirm her instructions...
"Indeed, Mrs Chime's mother and her personal physician have also been in touch with me urging me to take all appropriate measures to secure her freedom from Governor Chime's illegal confinement.”
Falana revealed in a statement on Wednesday. He also pointed out that contrary to the governor’s diversionary statement, he does not need the instructions of citizens to demand for their release.

“Without any instructions I am duty bound to file cases in court to secure the enforcement of the fundamental rights of detainees to personal liberty. For the avoidance of doubt, the doctrine of locus standi in the area of human rights has been abolished by the Fundamental Rights (Enforcement Procedure) Rules 2009 which came into force on December 1, 2009,” he said.

Mr. Falana noted that at the press conference Governor Chime succeeded in confirming the allegation that he has held his wife in illegal custody but attempted to justify the illegality by saying his wife has "a medical challenge".

Falana said: “Mr Chime has conspired with his private physicians to sentence his wife to unwarranted mental torture and psychological trauma in a room in the Government House for the past four months. If Chime's claim is correct that the wife is non compos mentis, when was the Enugu Government House converted to a psychiatric hospital?

“Having confirmed the allegation that he has willfully infringed the fundamental rights of his wife to personal liberty, dignity of the person and freedom of movement, Governor Chime should release his wife from illegal custody [and] be warned not to divert attention from the brutal abuse of the rights of his wife.
"If he and his doctors are convinced that she is medically challenged they should send her to a hospital for quick recovery!”
Falana thanked the Director-General of the SSS who, he said, has directed security personnel attached to the Government House to desist from teaming up with the Governor to hold his wife hostage.

Enugu state First Lady denies being Imprisoned by Gov Chime

Posted by Unknown Rabu, 06 November 2013 0 komentar

Governor Sullivan Chime of Enugu State on Tuesday night denied subjecting his wife, Mrs. Clara Chime, to accommodate arrest and has vowed to protect her from being exposed to ridicule. Chime made this denial in the current presence of some journalists, his wife and her elder brother, Mr. Tony Igwe.

Also present were the governor's siblings, Mrs. May Oji and Dr. Jide Chime, along with Mrs. Chime's neuro-psychiatric doctor, Dr. Aham Agumuo, among a couple of others. At the interview session, the governor's wife denied sending any petition to the National Human Rights Commission alleging unlawful detention by her husband.

She also denied hiring the services of Mr. Femi Falana to get her freedom from an alleged house arrest at the Governor's Lodge, Enugu. Continue after the break.
Falana had claimed in his letter to media houses and the Inspector-General of Police that he was engaged by the governor's wife to get her freedom from alleged house arrest.

The state governor, however, stated so it was “so disturbing” for him to speak out publicly about his wife's health challenges.

He vowed to accomplish all within his power, regardless of the private pains, to protect her from ridicule.

“Well, my wife has some medical challenges and it could be very unkind for me to share her condition on the pages of newspapers.
“I have inked everything to protect her integrity and I'm not now likely to expose her to ridicule because some individuals desire to exploit her situation to drag me into a needless war of words,” Chime said.
