A 12-year-old girl, Miss Chisom Okechukwu, has committed suicide, hanging herself at her family compound at Nnoche-Uduke Community in Okpoitumo in the Ikwo Local Government Part of Ebonyi.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Okechukwu, a principal five pupil at Nnoche-Uduke Primary School, was said to have left home on Saturday and wasn't seen until Sunday morning, hanging on a tree at the back of her compound.

Her dangling body was discovered by her younger sister, Ndidi, who was going to the toilet dug at the back of the compound.

An eye-wtness, who spoke on condition of anonymity, disclosed that Ndidi raised an alarm which attracted their parents and other members of the community who came and brought her down.

“The whole scenario brought tension and confusion in the community as individuals were observed in clusters discussing the death.

“People, especially some members of Okechukwu's family are of the opinion that she did not commit suicide and insisted on a comprehensive investigation to unravel the actual reason for her death,' 'said the witness.

He claimed a neighbour to the Okechukwu family had reported to the girl's parents that she stole her egg which made them to beat her.

“After the incident, Okechukwu went inside their residence, changed into her new cloth and left the home only to be observed dangling lifeless on a tree on Sunday,' 'he said.

An elder in the community, Mr Friday Itumo, told NAN that the incident had brought confusion to the community as this kind of tragedy had never been experienced before in the community.

“Mr Okechukwu isn't the girl's biological father as her mother came in with her when she re-married Mr Okechukwu after her former husband's death.

“Her former husband's family members are actually insisting that Mr Okechukwu should provide their daughter alive and this has compounded the problem,” he said.

Countless sympathisers were seen trooping in and from the compound, including her school mates who were visibly shocked by her sudden death.

The Ebonyi State Police Command Public Relations Officer, ASP Chris Anyanwu, confirmed the incident, saying that the matter was reported to the Police Division in Ikwo.

“We have commenced investigation into the girl's death to ascertain why she should engage in such act.

“We can't concur that she committed suicide because one can be killed and hanged by his or her killer, to claim that the person committed suicide.

“We assure her family, members of the community and the entire state that people would reach the root of this matter,' 'he said.

The girl's body has been deposited at the Onueke General Hospital Mortuary in the Ezza South Local Government Area for autopsy.

Four female teachers at a city college, who were accused of strip-searching a student and thereby driving her to commit suicide, have to face trial, as a special court on Friday refused to discharge them from the case.
On January 29, 2011, a student of MGR Janaki College complained to her teachers that Rs 4,000 she had kept with her had gone missing.


Teachers checked every student, but Divya, a third year BCom student, was apparently the only one strip-searched in front of others, said the CB-CID probing the case.
Shamed, Divya committed suicide on returning home.

A case of abatement to commit suicide, punishable under Section 306 of IPC, was registered against four lecturers – Jayalakshmi, Sudha, Selvi and Vijayalakshmi – for allegedly strip-searching the student.
On a complaint from the girl’s mother, police registered the case, and it was later transferred to the CB-CID.
After the agency filed its chargesheet before the mahila court here, the lecturers filed petitions seeking discharge from the case, saying the investigating agency had deliberately suppressed letters written by other students stating that no such strip-search incident occurred on the campus.

CB-CID, however, said their case was supported by witness depositions, documentary evidence and medical records.
Special judge Meena Sathish, concluding there was prima facie case to proceed against the lecturers, said they could raise such arguments at the time of trial.
She then dismissed their petitions, paving the way for commencement of trial in the case.

A Chitungwiza woman committed suicide after she caught her husband raping her 13-year-old sister. According to report, the accused, a 21-year-old soldier had committed the act on three different occasions during his wife's abscence. The first incident occurred when the woman went tovisit her friend, leaving behind her sister with her husband. The person was said to own fondled the litttle lady before raping her.On another occasion, the person asked your ex to come to the shops on the pretext of giving her school shoes.

It turned out that the shoe size was too small for the girl, leading the person to take the girl  to a nearby village in Seke claiming he wanted to give her a dress he had bought for her. At the village, the person reportedly forced himself on the litttle lady again. Upon arrival home at around 7pm, the girl's sister asked her where she was originating from at that hour of the night time and she shared with her that she had been with the man. The court heard that the girl's sister unable to take the abuse threw herself in a well, forcing the girl to go and stick with her other sister in the exact same neighbourhood. The man has been remanded in custody and charged to court.

Lanre started living in the US this past year when he went on a visit with Mr Latin and decided to remain there by the end of his visit. After living in Minnesota, he moved to Texas where things got better for him. He acquired some exotic cars and started living an excellent life, but things however changed for him this year. He's friends said he started behaving strangely and refused to keep in touch with anyone. No one knew his identity until his ID card was found. Lanre was Mr Latin's P.A for 8 years until this past year when he stopped doing work for him.
