Iyayi’s Burial: ASUU Bars Government Officials from participating.

Posted by Unknown 0 komentar
The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has barred government officials from participating in the burial programmes of its former president, Festus Iyayi.
The union is also demanding that an autopsy be performed on the corpse of Iyayi, to determine the actual cause of death.
The autopsy demand followed controversy over the actual cause of the death of the late ASUU activist.
A statement issued by the UNIBEN ASUU chapter, stated: "Professor Festus Iyayi did not just die in an accident but that he was willfully murdered by the state and its agents."
Continue.....................

The union added that at the appropriate time, ASUU and Prof. Iyayi's family would demand concrete answers from the state for his murder.
The statement which was signed by the union's chairman and secretary, Dr. Anthony Monye-Emina and Okeri Henry, respectively, said it was aware that there were deliberate steps being taken by the state and its agents to distort the facts of the 'accident' as it happened.

"This started with the reckless and irresponsible press statement that was issued by the Kogi State Government to try to explain away the killing of Professor Iyayi, and there are further attempts to conceal and distort available evidence. We shall of course meet them with the facts," the statement said.
The union while barring government officials from Iyayi's burial arrangements, said it and Iyayi's family were capable of giving the late professor a befitting burial he deserves.
The union also assured that Governor Idris Wada and those responsible for the accident that claimed the life of Iyayi would be made to face trial.

Commenting on ASUU's statement, a spokesman for the Iyayi family, Prof. Robert Ebewele, explained that the issue of autopsy was ASUU's affair and that the family would go on with burial plans for Iyayi earlier slated for the first week of December.

Brazil 2014 Not Sure For Keshi Yet - NFF

Posted by Unknown 0 komentar
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), says it has not taken a categorical stand on Stephen Keshi heading Nigeria’s coaching crew to the Brazil 2014 World Cup.

Nigeria’s sports minister, Bolaji Abdullahi last week announced that a “foreign technical assistant” will be drafted in to the Super Eagles backroom staff if Keshi makes such a request.
Continue...........
The NFF has now revealed that no decision has been reached in that regard as the federation was still in the process of appraising the performance of all the coaches under its employ.

“The minister (for Sport) has been like a father. He means well and I am sure his words are aimed at improving our national team even more. What he said was advisory and we are full of gratitude to him,” NFF’s technical committee chairman, Barrister Chris Green told supersport.com.

Green also revealed that the technical committee of the NFF would meet soon to reach a definite conclusion on the matter.

“Right now, we are still appraising what has been done so far and we have yet to come to any conclusion as to whether the team needs an assistant or not.

“However, all the coaches we have appointed for all our national teams have done very well in their various roles.

“However, we are always looking to improve and get to the very best level so as to favourably challenge the very best in the world,” he said.

NFF president, Alhaji Aminu Maigari also discussed the issue with supersport.com.

“I am impressed with Keshi and all the national team coaches but I cannot make unilateral decisions.

“The technical committee of the federation will meet and recommendations will then be ratified by the executive committee,” he said.

Tribunesport recalls that Frenchman Phillipe Troussier, Shuaibu Amodu took Nigeria through the qualifiers of France ‘98 and South-Korea-Japan 2002 respectively only to be replaced by Bora Milutinovic and Adegboye Onigbinde at the World Cup finals.

Amodu again lost his post to Swedish Lars Lagerback at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
