Leader Jonathan Thanks Nigerians For Their Help Throughout His Illness

Posted by Unknown Sabtu, 23 November 2013 0 komentar
President Goodluck Jonathan on Saturday thanked Nigerians for their show of solidarity and sympathy
during his brief illness while on a London visit.

The President denied reports that he had taken ill after partying all night, stating that despite the resolve to put Nigerians in the know, some media outlets could come up with such “fictional, malicious, hate-driven and scurrilous distortion of the facts of the President’s indisposition“.

Mr. Jonathan spoke in a press statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Rueben Abati.

Read the full statement below:

“President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan thanks all patriotic and well-meaning Nigerians, including his supporters, friends and political associates who expressed and conveyed their sympathies and solidarity with him, through various means, following the announcement of his sudden indisposition while on a mission to attract greater investments to accelerate the growth of the Nigerian economy in keeping with his agenda for national transformation.

“The Presidency also commends the generality of the mainstream media whose coverage of the President’s slight health challenge in London was mostly factual, objective, fair-minded and supportive.

“We however condemn the utterly irresponsible, deplorable, highly unprofessional and unethical antics of certain fringe elements operating in the nebulous sphere of cyberspace who persist in seizing every opportunity to unjustifiably malign and impugn the character and integrity of the elected leader of their country.

“It is very regrettable indeed that after, in compliance with President Jonathan’s standing instruction that Nigerians must never be kept in the dark about the state of his health, the public was duly informed that the President had received precautionary medical attention for an unexpected indisposition in London, Sahara Reporters and some other reckless, lawless, impudent and unpatriotic internet-based media chose to assault the sensibilities of all decent Nigerians again with their entirely fictional, malicious, hate-driven and scurrilous distortion of the facts of the President’s indisposition.

“The suggestion by Sahara Reporters that President Jonathan took ill following a “heavy birthday party thrown to celebrate the President’s 56th birthday at his Presidential suite in the InterContinental Hotel in London” is fictional nonsense as there was definitely no party in London to celebrate President Jonathan’s birthday on Wednesday night.

“The truth is that President Jonathan observed his 56th birthday anniversary quietly. For part of the day, he was airborne, in transit between Abuja and London. On arrival in London, he spent the rest of the day in the privacy of his hotel room. It has never been his custom to celebrate birthday anniversaries and no exception was made this year. No birthday party was therefore held for the President in London and there was certainly no drinking spree as Sahara Reporters claimed.

“As unregulated as they are, Sahara Reporters and their ilk are not beyond the bounds of legal action for libel and willful defamation of the character and reputation of a President who has courageously stepped forward to serve his country.

“They know very well that they can never substantiate or prove the constant false allegations and innuendoes they publish for the sole purpose of negatively portraying President Jonathan and his administration.

“Their incessant claim of a bibulous President is pure fiction and blackmail, and the product of malicious imagination. We warn that our forbearance of their disrespectful caricaturing of the President is not limitless.

“The Presidency will like to reiterate the trite point that no human being is beyond health challenges irrespective of their station in life. Sadly, this commonplace fact appears to be beyond the understanding of the publishers of Sahara Reporters who seem to have lost all sense of propriety, decency and human compassion.

“The President is comforted by the prayers, support and overwhelming goodwill of the people of Nigeria, fully assured that the forces of good will continue to triumph over the forces of darkness in our land.”

Jonathan flays World Bank's standing of Nigeria's business setting.

Posted by Unknown Jumat, 15 November 2013 0 komentar
FOR assessing Nigeria as one of the difficult destinations in the world to do business in 2013, by the World Bank, President Goodluck Jonathan has said the assessment is in bad faith and not correct because Nigeria’s business climate remains one of the best in the world as can be seen in the foreign direct investments (FDIs) that she attracts.
Continue..

A recent World Bank Doing Business report placed Nigeria in 147th position out of 189 countries surveyed in the doing business index.  But Jonathan who voiced his dissent to the assessment of the Briton woods institution yesterday said the fundamentals on ground in the country speak of the opposite of the ranking by the World Bank.

He made his feeling known yesterday while speaking at the 18th Annual Conference of the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN) which opened in Abuja with the theme: “Deepening Financial Sector Development: The Contribution of the Financial Accountant.”

The President was represented by the Minister of State for Finance, Dr. Yerima Lawal Ngama.
Jonathan maintained that Nigeria has performed far better in terms of growth compared to all the countries listed in the ranking.

“If you look at the list, Nigeria is ranked 147 out of 185. While all the other countries listed are having negative growth, which means that all their businesses are going down, Nigeria is among the fastest growing economies of the world,” Jonathan said.

Posted by Unknown Kamis, 14 November 2013 0 komentar
President goodluck Jonathan on Wednesday said he abandoned the 2013 Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting in Colombo, Sri Lanka to campaign for the Peoples Democratic Party candidate, Mr. Tony Nwoye, in the November 16 governorship election in Anambra State.

Jonathan while campaigning in Onitsha said, “I'd to cancel my visit to attend the CHOGM to be only at that rally,” to underscore the value he attached to the election and the “need certainly to push Anambra State forward.”
Jonathan apologised for the absence of  the Vice-President Namadi Sambo, who couldn't come because “two folks cannot be at the same place at the same time in case something happens.”
Meanwhile, the weekly Federal Executive Council meeting failed to carry on Wednesday at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

No official reason was given for the cancellation of the meeting where President Goodluck Jonathan, ministers and other presidential aides discuss national issues and award contracts.
Our correspondent however learnt that the meeting was cancelled due to the campaign of the Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidate in Anambra State, Tony Nwoye, that the President attended in Onitsha.

A couple of ministers and presidential aides, who did not get the notice of the cancellation beforehand, were seen rushing in to the Council Chambers venue of the meeting in front of the 10am kick- off time before these were informed of the development.

Beg Pre. GEJ , OBJ Advises G7 Govs

Posted by Unknown Selasa, 05 November 2013 0 komentar

Ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo advised the seven “rebel” governors to find a way to beg and reconcile with President Goodluck Jonathan.

The former president offered the advice when five of seven governors visited him in Abeokuta, capital of Ogun State. The governors'visited significantly less than 24 hours after a detachment of policemen disrupted their meeting in Kano State Governor's Lodge, in Abuja.

The five governor who visited Obasanjo included Rotimi Amaechi (Rivers) Aliyu Babangida (Niger), Sule Lamido (Jigawa), Muritala Nyako (Adamawa) and Rabiu Kwankwanso (Kano).

Pointblanknews.com couldn't determine why Governors Abduahmed Fatai (Kwara) and Aliyu Wamakko (Sokoto) stayed back.

Sources near the meeting said Obasanjo told the governors that their situation can only worsen should they continue steadily to oppose Jonathan.

Obasanjo reportedly told the governors that no President, irrespective of his perceived weakness, would stand and watch a human of governors test his resolve.

In line with the sources, the former president advised the embattled governors to find methods for reconciling with Jonathan if they don't want rougher days ahead.

A source among the governors who visited Obasanjo however confided in online source that the former president's advice might have fallen on deaf ears.

“From just how things are, I don't think some of these governors would beg Mr. President. They think they've crossed the rubicon and therefore had nothing more to lose to get rid of,” he added.

Pres.GEJ places Oduah on ‘tactical suspension’

Posted by Unknown Selasa, 29 Oktober 2013 0 komentar
President Goodluck Jonathan may have placed the embattled Minister of Aviation, Ms. Stella Oduah, on  “tactical suspension,” findings by our source have revealed.

A reliable Presidency source   said Jonathan decided on the  “tactical suspension,” hours before the signing of the Bilateral Air Service  Agreement between Nigeria and Israel on Monday.
Continue

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Aviation, Mr. George Ossi,  had on October 24 told the House of Representatives Committee on Aviation that Oduah   led a Nigerian delegation to Israel to sign the BASA.
The House committee  is probing the  purchase of  two  bulletproof cars  at  a whopping N255m  price by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority for the minister.

Our source explained that  it was the ‘tactical suspension’ that made Jonathan to direct the Minister of  State (1) for Foreign Affairs , Prof. Viola Onwuliri, to sign the  agreement instead of  Oduah.
When asked by one of our correspondents what ‘tactical suspension’ meant, he   said, “Oduah will not be allowed to attend public functions that will have the President in attendance until the three-member  committee  set up to investigate the matter turns in its report.”

The source, who said he did not know whether the “tactical suspension” order had  been formally communicated to the minister,  stated that  the step became necessary in order to dissuade Nigerians who hold the opinion that the President  was  shielding  Oduah.
In what seemed a corroboration of the “tactical suspension,” the  Special Adviser to the President on Political Matters, Mr. Ahmed Gulak, insisted that  Jonathan would not associate with or shield anybody found to be corrupt.

He insisted  during an interview with one of our correspondents on Tuesday, that the minister did not travel to Israel on the entourage of the President.
“Did you see them (Jonathan and the minister) together in Israel? The President will not associate or shield anybody found to be corrupt. That is why he set up that panel because he will not want to act based on media reports,” Gulak  said.
Shortly before our  source  and Gulak  spoke, the Presidency  said  the BASA  was signed by Onwuliri  because it was a matter bordering on foreign affairs.
The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati,   in an exclusive telephone interview with one of our correspondents,  argued  that there was no politics involved in Onwuliri signing the agreement on behalf of the government.

He said Nigerians should not reduce the matter to “the politics of political appointees who are all ultimately birds of passage.
” The President’s spokesman said Oduah did not only attend the signing ceremony but was also involved in framing the technical details of, and in preparing the agreement along with her Israeli counterpart.
He said it was when that was done, that the Foreign Ministries moved in at the level of G2 diplomacy.
Abati added, “The groundwork (for the agreement) was done by the Ministry of Aviation hence the involvement of the Aviation Minister, but this being a country-to-country agreement, more or less a treaty, it had to be signed by the Foreign Affairs Minister.

“It is also the convention in diplomacy to pair ministers. The Israelis brought their Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister, so we did the same. There was no politics involved and there is no doubt that it is within the provenance of the Foreign Ministry to sign agreements on behalf of the country.
“Let me add that BASA is about countries entering into an agreement.
“It is not about individuals. We must avoid the ridiculous temptation to reduce something that will promote good relations with a friendly nation to the politics of political appointees who are all ultimately birds of passage.”

When asked  if the  embattled minister  was under “tactical suspension,”   Abati replied, “She (Oduah was actually in attendance at the signing of the BASA . As I said, she was involved in framing the technical details of, and in preparing the agreement along with her Israeli counterpart. That done, the Foreign ministries moved in at the level of G2 diplomacy.”
Meanwhile,   the  ruling Peoples Democratic Party said on Tuesday that it  was  worried by the  bulletproof car scandal.

Like, Gulak, it assured Nigerians that whoever was  found culpable  would  face the law  because it (PDP) would never condone any form of  graft. The party, however, wondered why the opposition All Progressives Congress was going into a frenzy over the scandal when  its “governors and leaders   have been involved in bulletproof car deals more scandalous than those  in the Ministry of Aviation.”

In a statement by its    National Publicity Secretary, Chief  Olisa Metuh,  the PDP said its  position  on corruption was unambiguous. A part of the statement reads,   “The position of our great party on corruption is unambiguous and our zero tolerance for corrupt practices abounds in practical examples. “To us as a party, the accusation of corruption in the Aviation ministry is a big worry. It is for this reason  that the President and the leader of our  party has set up a panel to investigate the matter while the National Assembly which we also lead  has stepped in.”

It   frowned on the ethnic dimension which comments and street actions on the issue had taken and advised   “ethnic lords, jingoists as  well as lynch mobs “ to realise that  biased sentiments could hardly achieve an objective basis for establishing the culpability of the public officers involved in the matter.”    The party then went for the jugular of the APC ,  saying  it  (APC) was not different from a white washed tomb.
The PDP described the  APC as a stinking sepulchre and  the headquarters of corruption in Nigeria.
It said, “This  is a party whose leaders relish in stinking miasma but artfully turning a blind eye to it.
“They however go megaphonic when other political parties are involved.

“Hardly can you point at any of its leaders without a heavy baggage.  “In fact, the governors and leaders of the APC have been involved in bulletproof car deals more scandalous than those at the Aviation ministry but this is conspicuously missing on the sermon list of these  false evangelists of good governance.”   It wondered why  the trial of  the  Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mr. Adeyemi Ikuforiji,   for acts of corruption,  had yet to  be  discussed by the APC leadership.

The PDP further contended that the  stench of corruption oozing from   the concession  of the Lekki Toll Plaza  and its debilitating effects on the electoral fortune  of APC  was the reason the Lagos State Government allegedly retrieved and paid off  the firm that built the  road.
