AIR CRASH AVERTED: 464 Pilgrims Escape Death At Sokoto Airport; Aircraft Makes Emergency Landing Yesterday Morning.

An accident was averted on [Nov. 10] at the Sultan Abubakar International Airport, Sokoto, as a Max Airline aircraft was forced to make a crisis emergency landing about 2:40am.

The aircraft was conveying 464 pilgrims, including Hajj officials from Sokoto and Zamfara states. The incidence is the second after having a Kabo Airline aircraft escaped an identical crash in the beginning of this year's Hajj exercise.

The aircraft hovered for about 20 minutes, after three attempts, before landing. On board were Zamfara Deputy Governor and the state Amirul Hajj, Ibrahim Wakkala along with other state officials. Also up to speed were the Sokoto State Amirul Hajj, Jubril Gada and the Chairman of the State Pilgrims Welfare Agency, Muntari Maigona.

The aircraft was reported to be carrying the past batch of pilgrims from the zone, comprising those from Sokoto and Zamfara states.

A traveler, Faruku Umar, said:
The aircraft was supposed to have landed at 2.40am but it could not do this until around 3am. It was only in a position to land after making two futile attempts and it landed during the 3rd attempt, but with difficulty.

Most of us knew that there is a problem and it was a harrowing experience. We were, however, prayerful.
The airport's Acting Manager, Madu Bukar, said:

We mobilised all of the fire engines and other facilities and personnel required during a emergency landing. Luckily, the aircraft landed without any hitch and there is no damage to any airport facility.

All of the passengers were thereafter safely evacuated and as I'm talking to you at this point , the aircraft is parked at the airport.

Another plane crash averted in Abuja

Another air disaster was averted at the Nnamdi Azikwe Airport, Abuja on Monday as a Med-View Airlines aircraft from Lagos suddenly took to the air again at the point of landing in Abuja.
The pilot told the passengers that he took to the air again to avoid a collision with another aircraft on the tarmac.

The airline Flight VL2104 took off from the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos at noon and was scheduled to land in Abuja at about 1.05pm. The pilot had already announced final descent into Abuja and asked all passengers and cabin crew to fasten their seat belts but the pilot suddenly took off to the air again with barely 30 seconds to touch ground. The plane had 150 passengers on board. A correspondent of The PUNCH was one of the passengers. After about three minutes of gaining altitude, the pilot announced that he decided to take off again to avoid colliding with an aircraft that was on ground.

He said that after he had been granted clearance to land, it was later discovered that the other aircraft was not fast enough, hence his decision to take off.
The aircraft hovered for another 20 minutes in the air before finally landing at about 1.30pm.
While the drama lasted, the passengers were panic-stricken, especially when the plane entered into turbulent weather on air.

The PUNCH correspondent said that among the passengers were five different complete families.
One of the passengers, a nursing mother, who was breastfeeding her son at the time the pilot took off again reportedly withdrew the breast from the boy’s mouth and started praying profusely while the baby’s cry rented the air. When the plane finally landed, the passengers struggled to disembark.
“Are you still sitting down? Let me rush down in case it will suddenly take off again,” a middle-aged man was heard teasing one of his co-passengers.
The incident came less than a month after an Embraer aircraft operated by Associated Airlines with registration number SCD 361, conveying the corpse of a former Governor of Ondo State, Chief Olusegun Agagu, from Lagos to Akure for burial, crashed on October 3 shortly after take-off at Murtala Mohammed Airport, Lagos. Thirteen passengers in the crashed plane were killed, including a commissioner in Ondo State, Deji Falae.

Recuperating Governor of Taraba State, Danbaba Danfulani Suntai caused an emotional scene when he stormed the Unity Chapel Church (UCC) in Government House, Jalingo for thanks giving at the weekend.
Suntai was pronounced dead when an aircraft he piloted crashed near Yola, the Adamawa State capital, on Thursday, October 25 last year.

He spent 10 months in Germany and United States hospitals for treatment, returning on August 25.
He wrote the House of Assembly of his readiness to resume duty but was stopped by the lawmakers on health grounds.

Last Friday was exactly one year since the governor and his Aide de Camp (ADC) Iliya Dasat, Chief Detail Joel Danladi and Chief Security Officer (CSO) Tino Dangana who were also on board the ill-fated Cessna 208 aircraft survived the air mishap.
The three aides who were treated in Germany were with the governor during the thanksgiving service. Also accompanying the governor were his wife Hauwa, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) GT Kataps and Chief of Staff, Aminu Jika, among other aides.
Suntai’s thanksgiving ceremony came a few days after he went out for a fishing expedition to shake off officialdom.

The congregation was all tears on seeing him. The tears of joy followed the governor’s speech, which turned out to be the morning sermon for the worshipers.
I thank God that I survived the air crash to see this day. I am happy to reunite with you again,” Suntai said.
He thanked Taraba residents for their prayers on him which he said have helped him.
The governor preached forgiveness and asked everybody whom he said he may have offended to forgive him.
“Do not hold anything against your enemy or anyone at heart. For me and my family, we have forgiven all our adversaries,” he said.
Suntai said what God has done and shown him, even if he drops dead today (on Friday) he would die a fulfilled mortal.
