BlackBerry Is Requesting New Ideas For Emoticons

Posted by Unknown Sabtu, 16 November 2013 1 komentar
One of the things that I like about BlackBerry Messenger is its useful emoticons. It's one of the best out there.

Although during the days of yahoo messenger, its emoticons were great especially the rolling on the floor one which literally rolls when sent. So hilarious.

Whatsapp emoticon could make you cry. Not so useful.

BlackBerry emoticons are good since its introduction and have survived long enough for the introduction of new nice ones.

To get things started, BlackBerry is asking all its fans to submit any idea of emoticons they have in mind. Anyone that interest BlackBerry most will be featured in their BBM app.

So guys, what are you waiting for? Wear those thinking caps and put those suggestions out there by going to this link
Suggestions are open till November 20th.

For me, I suggest one new emoticon which is the "middle finger". It's a start

BBM For iPods and iPad Download

Posted by Unknown Kamis, 14 November 2013 0 komentar
Remember when BBM for Android and iPhone was released few weeks ago, it was said that iPad and iPods won't be supported until later. It was almost as if iPad and iPod user were sidelined by BlackBerry.

Well, that later is here and iPad and iPod users can now download BBM on their iDevices.

It is not surprising to see this early given the huge demand that came from BBM going cross platform.

Anyways, direct download links for BBM on iPod Touch and iPad mini is here for immediate download.

How to Use 2 BBM Accounts Simultaneously on One Device [Android]

Posted by Unknown Senin, 28 Oktober 2013 0 komentar

Have you ever wondered if it was possible use 2 BBM accounts at the same time?
As you can see in the video I have two messengers installed, one for personal account and the other one for my YT channel. Both of the apps work simultaneously without interrupting each other.

BBM3 is an app that is identical to the original BBM, however, it works separately thus allowing you to use 2 BBM simultaneously.

The app itself is not released on Google Play store, though it's developed by a senior member on XDA and is totally safe to use. All you have to do is download the app and install it on your device.

By the way, the app does not work on ARMv6 devices!

How Secure BBM (Android) ID Creation Is

Posted by Unknown Rabu, 23 Oktober 2013 0 komentar
This is some morning brain distraction I had. The queue for my Android's BBM ended this morning, and throughout the process, some ideas came into my mind.

So, BBM ID takes 8 characters, digit and letters. That would make 31 possible characters per position. Thus, the number of possible BBM ID is 31^8, or ~850 billion IDs, ignoring possibility of error checking character which would make it much less than that.

Now, from my experience this morning, it seems that the process of ID creation happens in the device. My friend also told me that if you want to bypass the queue for the email signups, you could use someone else's email who is already dequeued, for example my email, then just make new BB user ID or sign in if you already have one (apparently I have one since I signed up as BB App Vendor long ago).

My question is, since Android is so open source, how secure is BBM ID creation? I am no hacker, but here is a possible attack I thought of:

You could reverse engineer Android apps by decompiling the APK (never tried to decompile, but read about it before; on the other hand, extracting APK is very easy with the many file explorers available). So, we could reverse engineer BBM APK, then look for the function that calls the ID creation. Then, we make a dummy application which function is to keep calling that ID creation. This would exhaust BBM IDs for no users.

Let's now look at how long this process would take to exhaust all possible IDs, which worst case is 850 billion in numbers. From this morning, ID request takes around 3 minutes for me on WiFi. So for one hour, I could exhaust 20 IDs and for one day, I could exhaust 480 IDs. It would then take 850 billion/480 = ~1.8 billion days. So, BB could still fix it if possible! Really? Let's make a better approximation. Typically, an Android developer has more than one device to work on. Assume each attacker has 10 devices. Assume again, there are around 100 attackers per group, and there are 4 groups. The attack would then last for 850 billion/(480 * 10 * 100 * 4) = ~440 thousand days or ~1000 year. Fiuh! Still safe!

Yes, this is the kind of thoughts that go through my mind when I start thinking. I am not BB hater. I think BB is awesome with their QWERTY phones (I would use them if they don't lag when I open WhatsApp). I am just curious how would the BB engineers protect their system from such possible attack. Well, good day, folks.

BBM NOW LIVE ON ANDROID AND IPHONE

Posted by Unknown Senin, 21 Oktober 2013 0 komentar
Blackberry has finally made true its promise of rolling out BBM for Android phones and iPhone. That is quite interesting. But here is the catch. For now only those who subscribed for updates from Blackberry to be informed when the service is rolled can be use the service for now. Maybe as a reward for keeping faith in them to keep their promise. According to the mail i received from Blackberry here:

‘’We promised you'd be the first to know when BBM for Android and iPhone is available. We're excited to announce that the roll out has resumed! Due to the incredible demand there is a line-up to start using BBM. But, since you took the time to sign up in advance, we'd like to give you the chance to start using BBM on Android or iPhone right away without having to wait in line. Here's what to do to get past the line-up:

1. Visit BBM.com from iPhone or Android browser to download BBM.

2. Once the BBM app has been installed, open it.

3. When asked to ''Enter your email address to check if you can start using BBM'', use the email address this message was sent to.

4. Get started with setting up BBM.

Note to iPhone users: Apps can take up to a few hours to appear in the App Store so if you don't see it right away, it will be there soon.’’

And i just tested and it is working. So get right to it and download. Let the pinging continue!

Blackberry Messenger (BBM) on Android Officially Released!

Posted by Unknown 0 komentar

Finally, the wait is over! Blackberry Messenger (BBM) has finally been released on Android!

It was a long wait after the leaked versions got out in the public and I still have a hard time believing Blackberry messed it all up, and blamed it that it crashed the servers. C'mon, that alone sounds like a joke!

Anyway, when you first launch BBM you will be asked to enter your email so they can check whether or not you can start using the app. Like we didn't have to wait long enough... Thankfully, as I had already registered on their site, they actually let me use it! All I had to do was create a new Blackberry ID and that's it, I could finally use the world famous messenger!
