Detectives in Ondo State have detained a primary school teacher, Alade Adebayo, for allegedly flogging to death a four-year-old female pupil Elizabeth Wanogha.

The deceased pupil was a student of a private primary school, Falaye Memorial Nursery and Primary School, located at Fanibi area in Akure metropolis. The teacher, according to report, accused the deceased of being stubborn in the class. He was said to have beaten the girl to a state of coma. Cries from other pupils in the class reportedly attracted other teachers who rushed to the scene where they found that the girl had fainted.

She was said to have been rushed to a private hospital and was admitted but reportedly died later.
Police authorities, however, said that the pupil died two weeks after the beating by the suspect.
The father of the deceased, Mr Wanogha lodged a complaint at the Fanibi Police station, alleging that his daughter died as a result of the injuries sustained from the severe beating by her teacher.
Following the complaint, the teacher was arrested for interrogation.

Contacted, the Police image maker, Wole Ogodo, confirmed that the teacher had been arrested.
Ogodo however said that people should not jump into conclusion that it was the beating which took place about two weeks earlier that led to the death of the pupil. He pointed out that the autopsy will determine the cause of the pupil's death. Ogodo said that the suspect is being quizzed at the state Criminal Investigative Department, SCID.
He explained further that the deceased was hospitalised immediately after the beating but died two weeks after.

Ogodo said that investigation into the death of the pupil continues adding that the findings would be made public.
The father of the deceased pupil insisted that the teacher should be prosecuted for murder.
Mr wanogho who lived at Adebowale street Fanibi vowed that the matter would be pursued to a logical conclusion to serve as deterrent to wicked teachers who vent their anger on innocent pupils put in their care.
He appealed to NGOs to take the matter up by ensuring that it was not swept under the carpet.
The proprietor of the school declined comment on the incident.

A 10-year-old Chinese boy jumped 30 floors to his death after failing to write a self-criticism letter demanded by his teacher. The fifth-grade primary school student had been ordered to write a 1,000-character apology by his teacher for talking in class but refused.

The educator allegedly told him to jump out of a building after he failed to accomplish the task, a written report quoted relatives and the neighbour as saying.

"Teacher, I can't get it done," was found written in one of his true textbooks, CNR said. "I flinched several times when I tried to jump from the building."
The kid smashed right into a parked car under the flat where his family live. His furious relatives posted a banner outside the college in the southwestern city of Chengdu reading:
"The teacher forced our kid to jump off the building ".

The police investigation is still under way. Strict discipline is an important part of China's education system and culture, and tradition demands deference to authority, putting children under pressure to obey instructions.

The boy's school said today on its verified account on Sina Weibo, a Chinese equivalent of Twitter, that the kid and some of his classmates had been ordered to write reviews of these behaviour after they disturbed a speaking competition. He died "by accident", it said

A terrible accident happened at the Nigerian Navy Secondary School, Onikoko, Adigbe area of Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital in the early hours of October 30, 2013, Wednesday, when six naval rating officers pounced on one of the civilian teachers in the school and beat him to stupor over a minor argument between them.
Continue after the break.

The victim, Rasheed Ibrahim (pictured), could have been killed by the naval officers without the quick intervention of the Commandant. Ibrahim, a Senior Food and Nutrition teacher in the school since 1998, was ordered rushed by the Commandant first to the School sickbay for first aid treatment from where he was transferred to the FMC, Abeokuta.

According to P.M. News, the trouble started following an argument between the victim and one of the rating officers identified as Aliyu. This later snowballed into some commotion in the school premises.
“I saw them arguing, the argument dragged for a short time, I felt that it was a minor argument, so I did not intervene,” an eyewitness told the reporters.
“It happened around 7.15 a.m. At that time I saw Aliyu trying to drag Mr. Ibrahim out of his car and he succeeded. Another officer, Oyerinde, later instructed Aliyu to beat him up. That was how the whole issue started. In the process, another Senior Officer, Shodiya, came out from his vehicle and joined them, while other rating officers pounced on him to the extent that they used their thick belts on him until it got tore into pieces. All my attempts and that of others to pacify them were rebuffed.
“This was not the first time it will happen, this is the sixth time in two years that civilians working in the School here have been brutalised and nothing has been done”, the eyewitness explained.
When P.M. News tried to contact the Commandant of the School, Commodore M A Olatunji, on the phone to comment on the incident, he neither confirmed nor denied it, but declined to give further comments, saying he need to get clearance from the authority before he could make a statement.
