Amaechi’ll soon dump PDP – APC

Posted by Unknown Sabtu, 09 November 2013 0 komentar
The Interim National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Mr. Lai Mohammed, on Saturday, said the party was optimistic that the Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, and other rebel Peoples Democratic Party governors would join APC.
Mohammed told our source that they were still waiting for Amaechi to get back to them after consulting with President Goodluck Jonathan as he promised.

“Amaechi told us to give him time to consult with the President. We are still waiting for him. For now, we can say we are happy with the reception we got in all the states that we visited. We believe that soon we will be reaping the benefits,” he said.

Also a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Rivers State, Mr. Esuku Esuku, has expressed optimism that the state Governor, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, will soon dump the Peoples Democratic Party for the APC.
Esuku, who said the visit of the APC leadership to the state would not be in vain, added that the party would soon take the South-South geopolitical zone by storm.
Describing the APC as formidable, Esuku stated that every person that was of voting age was also an asset to the party.
“By the grace of God, I am a Christian and I work with faith. I remained in the ACN up to the day it merged with the CPC and ANPP to form APC. The visit of the APC leaders to Rivers State can never be for nothing.
“Governor Chibuike Amaechi will move to the APC. The signs are there and we know that every person that is of voting age is an asset to the APC, not to talk of a governor of a state,” he said.
He pointed out that the opposition party had demonstrated that it had the capacity to change the fortunes of the country with sacrifice and good government. Esuku observed that the PDP failed as the ruling party because it refused to make sacrifices for the improvement of Nigerians’ living standard.
He said the merger of three political parties to form the APC was a sacrifice made by the leaders of the affected political parties in order to save Nigerians from the maladministration of the PDP. He said, “The APC has demonstrated that it has what it takes to change the fortunes of Nigerians. APC has love for Nigerians and that explains why three political parties collapsed into one to form a formidable party.
“What the country needs is sacrifice. The PDP does not want to sacrifice for the country. The problem we have is that the PDP thinks it will stay in power forever. But the APC is saying the time has come for it to bring the desired change to the country.”

Buhari, Tinubu invite Amaechi to join APC

Posted by Unknown Rabu, 06 November 2013 0 komentar
A former Head of State, Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari and ex-Lagos State Governor Bola Tinubu, on Tuesday renewed their calls on Rivers State Governor, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi to join the All Progressives Congress. Buhari and Tinubu, who led a team of top APC officials to Port Harcourt for a rally, described Amaechi as an asset to Rivers people and Nigeria.

They spoke before the governor alleged that the desperation of the Peoples Democratic Party had made it to hire the state Police Commissioner, Mr. Joseph Mbu, to lead its “military wing” in the state.
Buhari  had said the leadership of the APC was in the state to seek the understanding and support of the people through Amaechi.
He said the governor’s projects in the state had increased his respect for him.
Buhari added, “Governor Amaechi is a great asset to the people of the state and to the nation. We are at a crossroad and whichever way you try to look at it, there is going to be a change in Nigerian politics.
“If we remain divided, we may not achieve the aim to save this country. We decided to come together to make sure we savage this country from misgovernance and to save its material and human resources.”
Tinubu warned that the country would not progress in an atmosphere of intimidation, harassment and lies.
He dismissed insinuations that Amaechi did not have followers in the state, saying, “We know he (Amaechi) couldn’t have been elected without the support of his people and we are educated enough to see the basis of his persecution.
It (basis of persecution) is because he (Amaechi) was fighting to protect the asset, revenue and resources of Rivers State. We have heard so many propagandas like you have heard. I know Rotimi Amaechi. I know that he is a progressive.
“I invite all of you to please ask Governor Amaechi to lead you to the APC. I know if there is a referendum here today (Tuesday), we will score 100 per cent.”
Amaechi had called on the people of the state to be ready to confront the police.
He said the police would oppress the masses and rig 2015 election if not resisted.
Amaechi told the gathering that there could be no revolution without blood, maintaining that the people must be courageous.
The governor said that the people of the state would only be able to control their resources if they were ready for the police.
He pointed out that the desperation of the PDP had led it to hire  Mbu as the military wing of the party.
The governor said, “They said policemen don’t want us to go inside the airport. I came down and these young boys and girls forced the gate open and we walked from that junction; five kilometres into the airport.
“I trekked with you into the airport. The reason I did that is that the police will come after you. The only way to stop them is what I call the people’s power. It must not be one, two or three persons.
“We must go now when we leave here and begin to mobilise our people to prepare ourselves from now to the election to confront the Nigerian police. When you hear impunity, impunity, it’s because you allow it.
“If you sit in your houses and you don’t take the risk, are you courageous? All of you must get ready.
“We will continue to march and make sure we stop them. There is no revolution without blood. The only revolution without blood is reform. That is what you must know. So to control our wealth, let’s be ready for the police.
“We shall continue to be law abiding, but henceforth, we will continue to resist the police. If we do not resist the police, they will continue to oppress the people; they will do what they did in Delta State, where they used gun to chase people and rig elections. What we want is an election that people would like to vote.”

Presidency dares Amaechi to join APC

Posted by Unknown 0 komentar
The Presidency on Wednesday said Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State was at liberty to dump the ruling Peoples Democratic Party for the opposition All Progressive Congress.
Special Adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan on Political Matters, Mr. Ahmed Gulak, said this in an interview with our correspondent. Gulak was reacting to a statement credited to Amaechi that he would consult Jonathan before joining the APC.
Continue after the break.
The governor was quoted to have made the remark on Tuesday while receiving chieftains of the opposition APC who were in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, to woo him into their fold.
“Before I join the APC, I will consult the President. I will. He is from our zone. I will consult all the consultable,” he was quoted to have said.
But Gulak said the governor was only trivialising the issue at stake as he deliberately engaged in anti-party activities.
He said since Amaechi did not consult the President before inviting the APC leaders and giving them tumultuous reception in his state, he should not bother to consult Jonathan before leaving the PDP.
He said it was unfortunate that the governor did not understand the gravity of the voyage he had embarked upon.
The President’s aide said, “Governor Amaechi did not consult the President before inviting APC leaders to Rivers State and giving them tumultuous welcome, so he does not need to consult the President before joining APC because he knows that the President will not allow any PDP member to go to APC.
“Governor Amaechi is at liberty to join APC. This is belittling the issue. We are not small boys; we are in a serious business of politics.
“You cannot as a governor on the platform of PDP invite APC leaders to your state and make a show of it and now say that you will consult the President who is the leader of the PDP before you join APC.

It has been revelaed the Rivers State Governor, Romtimi Amaechi, has hired private Israeli security guards. Amaechi, who has been having a running battle with the Commissioner of Police in River State often times accusing the CP, Mbu Joseph Mbu of plotting to kill him and his political appointees although he has presented no shred of proof to back up his claims.
Continue.

The River State Police Command which is not happy with the private security arrangement from the Israeli firm and is challenging their legality has said that it is providing more than enough security for Amaechi.

According to the Police Command 32 police escorts are attached to Amaechi’s convoy, 20 are attached each to his wife Dame Judith Amaechi and the Deputy Governor, Tele Ikuru. Also, the wife of the deputy governor, Mrs Ikuru moves with 12 police escorts. The SSG had five, the Chief of Staff also had five while a total of 109 policemen guard the State House front and back in alternate arrangement. In addition, the  police detachment to Amaechi and the Government House also has 18 men from the Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU) and 18 from the Swift Operation Squad (SOS). He said three Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) are stationed at the front and back gates of the Government House. Also, 10 men of the Anti-Bomb Squad and 10 State Intelligence Bureau (SIB) were part of the government’s security arrangements, but noted that the governor rejected the SIB personnel.

The presence of the private Israeli security guards are now causing a serious concern considering the high possibility of a clash between them and the Nigerian security officials from the police and the State Security Service (SSS).

These were joined on the trip by Bayelsa State governor, Seriake Dickson. This fuelled excitement within the political circles, with speculations that President Jonathan and Ameachi, both politically estranged duo will use the joint flight to truly have a heart to heart talk.

Governor Amaechi and members of the state executive council had arrived Port Harcourt Airport and waited for the arrival of the President.

Supporters of Seriake Dickson, Nyesom Wike, the supervising Minister of Education, along with his political group; Grassroots Democratic Movement (GDI), along with members of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, all jostled for space and attention while also awaiting the president's aircraft since it touched down at the airport at about 1.40 p.m.

Okrika town and its environs were choked with soldiers, policemen, men of the Department of the Secret Service, Civil Defence Corps and Federal Road Safety Commission, all strategically positioned.

There have been several naval war boats patrolling the Okrika waterways.

There have been also military fighter helicopters on air surveillance, just as there clearly was an aerial camera bearing balloon, overlooking the perimeters of the area where in actuality the event took place in Okrika.

Mrs. Jonathan, was accompanied to the Port Harcourt Polo Club, venue of the service of songs, by the wife of the vice president, Hajia Amina Namadi Sambo.

Football and Nollywood stars were also at the service of songs to show solidarity with the First Lady.

All of the women clad in specially designed apparels for the occasion went right into a frenzy when Patience Ozokwu, made her appearance on a lawn of the Port Harcourt Polo Club.

Nollywood stars present were Zachee Orji and Kanayo Kanayo, the Akin and Paw-paw fame.

The folks of Wakrike, (that could be the Okrika people) used the opportunity of the burial rites of Madam Charity Oba, the adopted mother of the First Lady in Okrika to confer Chieftaincy titles on the President and his Wife.
